KKU Library Hosts Environmental Day Event Highlighting Innovation and Sustainability

The Khon Kaen University Library (KKUL) , in collaboration with its 14-member Green Library Network, private sector partners, and local communities, hosted an event for Thai Environment Day to promote sustainable environmental management. The event, part of a “Do Good for Father This Month” project, featured an inspiring lecture by the student “CupCycle” team and a highly successful plastic bottle cap donation drive.

Held on December 4, 2025, at the main hall of the KKU Library, the event aimed to foster a green organizational culture and raise environmental awareness. It saw strong participation from 14 university departments that form the Green Library Network, including various faculties, colleges, and administrative divisions.

Private businesses and community representatives also took part, including Pricha Kai Yang restaurant, Tet Khonkaen, Sai Rim Bueng Nong Khot restaurant, and the Ban Nong Phai community. The event drew over 60 attendees, including 18 student volunteers.

A key highlight was a special lecture titled “The Story of the CupCycle Team,” presented by students from the Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy. The team shared their experience developing an innovative business that transforms type 7 plastic cup waste into material for 3D printers, a project that secured a 100,000 baht grant from the TED Fund. Their story served to inspire attendees by demonstrating the value of waste materials and sparking ideas for environmental innovation.

Throughout the event, a donation point was set up to collect plastic bottle caps. The initiative received an overwhelming response from staff, students, and the public, resulting in the collection of over 20 kilograms of plastic caps that will be repurposed for social benefit.

The success of the event underscores the power of collaboration between university departments, the private sector, and the community in advancing environmental goals. The KKU Library reaffirmed its commitment to acting as a central hub for networking and promoting creative, sustainable activities for the benefit of society.
