KKU Library and Faculty of Fine Arts Collaborate on Isan Folk Music Exhibition

The Khon Kaen University Library, in partnership with the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, is hosting an exhibition to celebrate and preserve the region’s traditional musical heritage. The event, titled “Isan Folk Music: Continuing the Artistic Heritage,” is open to students, faculty, and the general public.

The exhibition runs from June 16 to July 24, 2025, and is located in the main hall of the library’s Information Center. An official opening ceremony was held on June 16, presided over by the library’s director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supat Sinawat.

In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supat stated that the exhibition’s primary goal is to raise awareness and promote the conservation of Isan’s folk arts and culture. “The KKU Library, as a ‘Learning Center for All,’ is focused on collecting, analyzing, and disseminating Isan art, culture, and wisdom,” he said. “Our aim is to pass this valuable cultural heritage on to younger generations and the wider community.”

The exhibition offers a “Phygital Learning Experience,” blending physical displays with digital interaction. Visitors can view a collection of rare and distinctive Isan folk musical instruments. This is complemented by a digital exhibit that provides on-demand demonstrations of how the instruments are used in traditional and cultural performances, allowing for a deeper appreciation of Isan music.

Organizers hope the event will reinforce the library’s role as a “Center of Social Wisdom.” Through creative and accessible activities, the exhibition aims to inspire visitors to gain knowledge and actively participate in conserving the unique and beautiful artistic traditions of the Isan region.
