KKU Library Donates 2.5 Tons of Clothing to Mark 47th Anniversary, Reducing Greenhouse Gases

The Khon Kaen University (KKU) Library celebrated its 47th anniversary by donating 2,507.4 kilograms of second-hand clothing to the Baan Look Rak Foundation and the Khon Kaen School for the Blind. The initiative underscores the library’s commitment to its “Green Library” policy, balancing social contribution with environmental sustainability.

The clothing drive, which ran from April 20 to May 11, 2026, was significantly supported by professional experience interns from various institutions. The students played a key role in publicizing the campaign, sorting the donated items, and preparing them for delivery. The library noted that this process provided the interns with a valuable learning experience that combined professional skills with the organization’s core value of social devotion.

Suttilak Padpeng, the library’s Deputy Director for Administration and Human Resources, stated that the project was a source of pride as the library enters its 47th year. “We are proud to see the power of the new generation, our interns, who were part of driving this social and environmental activity,” she said.

She highlighted the environmental impact of the donation, explaining, “This donation of over 2.5 tons of clothing not only benefits children but also has a tangible environmental result, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 61,723.53 kg CO2e. This is a significant achievement under our Green Library policy and our Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

The library extended its gratitude to all donors who contributed used clothing, turning unused items into valuable resources. The effort helped reduce waste management burdens and environmental impact while providing support to improve the quality of life for youth in Khon Kaen province.
