The Khon Kaen University (KKU) Library has achieved a significant international milestone after its publications on the local culture of Northeastern Thailand, or Isan, were formally requested for inclusion in the Library of Congress Representative Office, Embassy of the United States of America
Library of Congress Representative Office, Embassy of the United States of America, which has a global mission to collect valuable knowledge and publications from around the world, identified the KKU Library as a prominent center for the collection and dissemination of Isan arts and culture. Recognizing the value of these materials, it sent a formal request to acquire the publications to be preserved as part of its world knowledge collection.
On February 24, 2026, a delegation from the KKU Library’s executive team officially handed over the books and publications. The team included Mr. Wanchat Phumee, Deputy Director for Services, Physical Environment, and Innovation; Mrs. Yuphaphon Thongnoi, Assistant Director for Strategy and Information Resource Management; and Ms. Prapaporn Monthatip, Head of Information Resource Management.
They presented the materials to Ms. Apilak Pinyolak, a librarian from the Library of Congress Office at the U.S. Embassy in Thailand. The publications will be sent to the main library in Washington, D.C., where they will serve as a reference source for international researchers, students, and the public interested in studying Thailand and Isan culture.
This selection is a source of great pride for Khon Kaen University, affirming the library’s success in its mission to preserve, promote, and share the cultural knowledge of the Isan region on a global stage. The event aligns with the library’s vision of serving as a true intellectual repository for society.
